IMS, Mediastan and partner IRADA hosted a diverse range of civil society representatives including journalists, tech experts and academics at the Karachi School of Business & Leadership on 17 September for a consultation on Pakistan’s recent national AI policy.
The discussion was the fourth and last in a series of dialogues that explore the state of AI readiness and development in Pakistan across various dimensions, including policy, development and literacy. The findings and recommendations from the dialogue series will feed into a research report that will be published in November.
At the Karachi dialogue, participants indicated the gaps in the national AI policy in terms of addressing data protection, regional disparities and skills development. The participants also agreed to create a network of civil society representatives, journalists and academia to continue collaboration and experience sharing for examining the effects of AI use on Pakistani society and developing cotextualised solutions.
