IMS, Mediastan and partner IRADA organised a national dialogue on 25 September on a review of the legal landscape of the media in Pakistan. The dialogue also marked the International Day for Universal Access to Information.
The dialogue was used to launch the new report on Modernizing Media Law published by IMS, Mediastan and partner IRADA. The report details changes in the legal regime for media, technology and expression during the past decade.
The dialogue included a panel discussion moderated by media development expert Adnan Rehmat from IMS and Mediastan. The panel featured Journalists’ Safety Commission Chair Kamaluddin Tipu, Development Policy Specialist Ammara Durrani, Journalist Sehrish Qureshi and Digital Rights Specialist Sadaf Khan among others. The panellists highlighted issues of gaps in laws and enforcement and called for better protections for media and journalists.
